Celebrate the anniversary of Peacemaking:
The Believers’ Calling
This year brings the 30th anniversary of Peacemaking: The Believers' Calling [PDF]. This document affirmed that peacemaking is a central task of individuals and communities who follow Jesus Christ. It celebrated the long history and faithful witness of Presbyterian peacemakers. And it called the church to renewed, intentional ministries seeking peace and pursuing justice. Here are some resources to mark this anniversary:
Share your plans and celebrations with the Peacemaking Program who will share them with others.
Use liturgical resources related to peacemaking concerns
Use a prayer from the Heads of Churches in Jerusalem and an ecumenical liturgy from Ireland in services that lift up concern for a just peace for Israelis and Palestinians. May 29 to June 4, 2010 is designated as the World Week for Peace in Palestine Israel; however the resources may be used at any time.
Use a sermon and prayers, including a Eucharistic Prayer, to proclaim that children should not be used as soldiers. May 25, 2010 marked the tenth anniversary of the adoption of the Optional Protocol to the Convention on the Rights of the Child on the involvement of children in armed conflict by the United Nations General Assembly.
Use prayers and other liturgical resources that call us to care for creation in the aftermath of the oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico from Presbyterian Disaster Assistance and from the National Council of Churches Eco-Justice Program.
